Her second single (and the title track on the album), Love, Save the Empty was featured on several television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill and Mercy in 2009. “I find it endearing that these shows want to put my song and interpretation to something they wrote and have visually interpreted,” she says, “I definitely can’t complain.”
The TV spots have opened the door to several tours over the course of this year. I was lucky enough to catch Erin’s show in Seattle with Landon Pigg in September and it was absolutely awesome (for lack of a better word!). A funny fact: She and Landon shared his band for that tour. So, what was it like for Erin to ride across the country with a band full of guys you ask? “Being the only girl was pretty hilarious,” she explained, “I got to endure, and usually start, the boy talk."
At the moment, Erin is on tour with Butterfly Boucher and she’ll finish off the year with the Ten out of Tenn. tour this December. Please check out the tour dates on the right side of this page and grab some tickets. You won't regret it! For more tour dates, please visit Erin's official site!
Hi Erin! I caught your show with Landon Pigg earlier this month (it rocked!), what was that touring experience like? What was it like being the only girl on a tour bus full of guys?!
We had such a great time. Landon and the boys in the band (we shared the band) were so beautiful to be around. Everyone was very considerate of the other and full of positivity even when things were inconvenient. Seven of us shared a van and Landon's choice of sleeping position was on the floor in front of the front bench. It was his little cave. I love Landon's writing and energy and it was such an honor to be out on the road together. Being the only girl was pretty hilarious. I got to endure ( and usually start ;) ) the boy talk.
You’re currently hitting the road with Butterfly Boucher, is there any chance you might perform a song together on this tour?
She's currently playing her own set along with playing bass for me in my band as well. I'm pretty honored to share this tour with her. Plus it's nice to finally have a girl in the van with me!! No songs together for now, although my mom called the other day and told me we should cover Joan Jett. Pretty funny.
What has touring taught you?
Flexibility and tact. Luckily most everyone I have toured with has been very conscious of each other.
Do you do anything special to prepare for your show?
Deep breaths and usually a shot of Jager and Red Bull.
What’s your favorite track to perform from your album and why?
Hmmm. Matters the mood. "Pitter-Pat" is usually an intimate moment so I enjoy sharing that with people.
What do you do to stay inspired on tour?
Actually staying healthy with good food and fresh air as much as possible. Also, listening to new music when searching through Pandora.
How do you feel about how much of yourself you expose through your lyrics?
There are "those" nights where I think I may have to run off stage but then I inner dialogue with myself or pray to get through it. But mostly, it becomes a new song every night because I am always in a different place emotionally and so is the crowd. Each night feels very different than the other.
How do you feel about having so many of your songs featured on TV?
I definitely can't complain. I find it endearing that these shows like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill want to put my song and interpretation to something they wrote and have visually interpreted.
When you look back at the person you were when you began recording Love, Save the Empty, how do you feel like you’ve changed since then?
Wow. Wow. Ummmm. A lot. So much...I would recommend to everyone (not really) to record an album. I'd say the number one thing I have become so much more aware of is communication between people. Sounds simple, but so true. Just being very in tune with the immediate needs of someone and being flexible around that. Patience. I could go on forever...
What are your goals for your next album?
Same goal as I've had in this whole process. Just staying true to where I am, and have been, and wanna be.
If you weren’t a musician right now, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Grocery shopping. :) Professionally!
What is something that not too many people know about you that you’d be willing to share?
I feel like I tell too much (on and offstage) so most people know everything. I cut my hair when I'm nervous or procrastinating.
If there was one thing that you wish to do musically that you aren't currently doing what would it be?
I'd play drums...
When you're not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Grocery shop and cook, call my mama, take walks in Percy Warner park in Nashville.
What kinds of books, movies and music are you into right now?
Book: The War of Art.
Movies: Probably things along the line of Christmas Vacation to get in the season...
Music: Some old Paul Simon, M. Ward (Post-War).
