Behind the scenes, twenty-year-old Molly Burnett, who completely rocks the part of Melanie and has been on the show since July 31st, is creating a comfy little niche for herself amongst daytime television's finest. Her charisma and effortless sex appeal have made her an instant hit on the classic soap opera. She is truly a kind, beautiful person and I am so excited to share her with you through this Q&A session! Enjoy!

Where are you from?
Molly: Littleton, Colorado

How old were you and how did you get into acting?
I was 5 when I first stepped on the stage, that’s not to say I wasn’t performing at an earlier age though :)

Do you have any siblings? Is anyone else in your family in show business?
I have a younger brother, Will, who’s the funniest person I know and SHOULD be a comedian, but I’m the only family member in the biz (apart from my grandmother who was in an a-capella singing group back in the day called the Dr. Pepperettes).

You have created quite a stir as ‘Melanie Layton’ on Days of Our Lives! How did you land your part on the show?
After a whole mess of auditions, they decided I was the girl for the role.

Does anyone in your family watch the show? What do they think about your storyline?
I feel like everyone in my world watches the show now! My mom and dad watch it at night, but when there are kissing scenes my dad and brother ask that I tell them-“I’m just not on that day!”

Your character has brought so much life to “Days of Our Lives,” you bring such a refreshing lightness to the dysfunction! What are some of the best parts of playing such a controversial character?
Thank you so much! I think the more controversial the role, the more fun the character is to play. Melanie has so many layers, and it’s a treat to get to explore them and bring them to life.

When I was younger, I remember hearing that some actors on the show would get hate mail directed toward their characters…Have you met any crazy fans that call you by your character’s name instead of your real name yet?! Do you have any odd fan stories yet?
Haha, no not yet. I have had a few people come up to me (which is so surreal), but no crazy fan mail!

Has it been difficult to join a cast that has been together for so long? Have you made any close friends?
I was worried about that, but I literally stepped on-set and was immediately welcomed into the world of Salem. Everyone is terrific.

What’s your work schedule like? How many hours does it take to film an episode on average?
I'd say we rock 9-12 hour days. Sometimes it’s one episode a day, one time I had 4 to film in a day!

Every show seems to have a practical joker on set – is there a cast-member that is especially funny at work?
I’d say Bryan and Darin (with Molly above) have the practical joker thing going on. Darin and I joke around and beat each other up; he’s very much like my older brother.

Do you feel that it's important, as an actress, to be a role model for your fans? Is that a difficult thing to do?
Of course. If you’re putting yourself in the public eye, you have a responsibility to exude class and professionalism as well as take on a persona that hopefully fans can look up to.

What’s your stance on dating other actors? Have you done it or would you do it? Why or why not?
The heart wants what the heart wants, right? We have no control over that, but I would say it can lead to sticky situations..

When you're not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m quite a fan of all things creative. I love Martha Stewart and all her crafts, scrap-booking, decorating etc... :)

What are some of your favorite music artists and albums? Films?
Favorite artist: JAMES TAYLOR. He’s my man, his voice is perfection. But I love jazz; Billie, Frank, Ella… Favorite movie: Almost Famous. I love the TV show Friends, I can quote every episode (sad? Yes.), and I’m a fan of Gossip Girl, and Entourage. And I’m so horribly in love with Harry Potter- the books, the movies, the everything.

If you could portray any character or personality out there, who would you choose and why?
I would love to play a character like Rachel on Friends; so quick witted and fun.

If you could work with any actor, who would it be and why?
Robert Downey Jr., the man is extraordinarily talented.

So what’s next for Melanie? She’s taken Salem by storm, what do you hope will happen to her next? Any chance for a more serious Melanie + Nick romance in the future?!

Who knows what Melanie is going to do. Melanie doesn’t know what she’s going to do. All I can say is her life is going to be turned upside down soon (who thought it could get worse than her father being murdered!) Her heart doesn’t really belong to anyone yet, she’s young and playing the field ya know? But there’s something about Nick…
